Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
I'm very excited that we're getting this nice chunky edition of YKK. With color pages! This is a holy grail localization for me, something I figured was well beyond the realm of possibility, and here we are.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is your standard cozy catastrophe story about a humanoid robot ... sort of? It's set in a near(?) future in which cracking some pretty significant engineering barriers hasn't made our ghost stories any less potent. As a result, it's as much about hauntings of various kinds along the figurative-to-literal gradient and their impact on communities as it is about small, mundane pleasures and cute gay robots flirting. I don't know that YKK would be everyone's ideal vehicle for these things, but it's hard to overstate how much of it is still rattling around inside my skull, how familiar the shape of it feels however many years later.
