M. John Harrison
Been reading some M. John Harrison recently. As a friend once pointed out, his broad project as a SFF writer is conspicuously not aimed at young people, or at least he's not preoccupied with what we're supposed to believe are the uniform concerns of everyone under 25, something that's evident even in his early work. So basically anything of his would be a good palate cleanser if you need a break from YA-influenced stuff. Otherwise my pitch for Harrison amounts to three points:
- He has a strong sense for how communication involves a lot of talking past each other
- He's got worldbuilding's number
- He wrote Light, for shit's sake
