Final Fantasy Tactics
Remap has been posting videos about Final Fantasy Tactics, and whenever I see/hear about/remember that game I want to play it again. So my hands slipped and now I'm accidentally halfway through a run.
FFT won't be everyone's favorite TRPG. It'll all seem like too much of a pain if you don't feel like learning the systems, and if you do figure it out but would prefer that more of the game happened on the battlefield grid maps vs. in the menus, you'll probably just be bored. If you're a Fire Emblem fan, keep playing Fire Emblem and be content that the series you like isn't dead and buried except for some references in the IP holder's MMO. What I will say, as someone who does like this kind of thing, is that I think most attempts to improve on the FFT model (including later efforts by the same team) made it less fun. Only Disgaea ever really seemed to get that breaking the game open--strategy, rather than the tactics promised by the title--is the point.
Let's also remember those few years during which Square was the king of expressive low-res sprites. If I had never played FFT, I might play it now just to see all the different solutions the artists came up with for drawing hands using like 12 pixels.
Anyway, here's the obligatory mention of FFT Battleground.
